Garage Door Balance

How To Test Your Garage Door Balance?

1.First, disconnect your garage door from the opener by pulling on the red release cord. 2.Manually lower the garage door, and stop it at waist height. 3.Now release the door. If it goes down on it’s own, it needs to be adjusted. If it goes back up, that means the door is “hot” and the springs are too tight, automatically pulling it back up. Both of these scenarios put undue tension on the garage door opener, either by making it work against the door wanting to go back up, or against gravity wanting to pull the door down without sufficient spring tension. 4.The door should stay at waist height. If it doesn’t, this is causing extra wear on your garage door opener, and your door and springs need to be adjusted by a professional.
